From Red to Pink – Part III: THE STARTUP

Some say cannabis will become like wine or beer—an industry controlled by giants. But companies like Bedrocan prove that cannabis can be scientific, precise, and therapeutic. Cannabis isn’t just recreation; it offers healthier consumption options, from dry herb vaporizers like the Magic Flight Launch Box to prescription “Flos.”

Working in a cannabis startup feels surreal. These companies call themselves startups even after scaling. It’s a reflection of an entrepreneurial spirit where each day brings new challenges and opportunities.

The Cannabis Startup Culture

When I joined “Red,” I was captivated by the company’s energy and culture. Upper management had its quirks, but I learned from ex-dispensary employees who viewed corporate cannabis as a step up from budtending.

In orientation, I absorbed state-by-state compliance, cannabinoid science, and vendor management. It was more than business—it was passion. I even started calling it “cannabis” instead of marijuana.

Facing Criticism

Working at “Red” wasn’t always easy. People had strong opinions, some even confronting me in public, questioning my decision to work there. But I admired the company for its boldness and persistence, standing up when other businesses played it safe.

“Red” shaped industry processes, from purchasing to receiving. It felt like being part of something groundbreaking—just like the underdog finally getting its due, as The Game and 50 Cent would say: “Hate it or love it, the underdog’s on top.”
