Terp Basel Miami: Bringing Heat & Culture to Florida’s Cannabis Scene
It’s no doubt that Miami is known for its rich, diverse, and colorful art ecosystem. Every December, Miami Art Week hosts over 20 international art fairs, 1,000+ galleries and installations, and welcomes thousands of artists and art enthusiasts. The famous Art Basel Miami Beach is held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, showcasing art pieces and promoting emerging and established artists from all over the world.
This year, the experiential marketing & event group BAKED! dived head first into the Miami Art World. Hosting another incredible Terp Basel, this three-night extravaganza included just about everything that resembles cannabis culture – live music performances, brand activations, dab bars, live glass blowing by legends like Jerome Baker, incredible cultivars and genetics from a wide selection of national & international vendors, and mesmerizing art installations by renowned artists Sean Flores, Heart Hatter and Gazoo To The Moon.
The vibrant location - an indoor/outdoor 2-story skatepark called Skatebird Miami - completely complimented the overall vibe and essence of Terp Basel. The venue hosted sponsors and vendors along the skate ramps, while guests could roam around the park, shop the marketplace, and indulge in munchies like rosin-infused chicken wings or pizza from Yeti’s Pizza Shack.
Terp Basel 2024
Day 1
This year’s Terp Basel was presented by Midwest Best (the breeder behind the Award-Winning Melonade, Raspberry Bellini, and more) along with DSFFamily (Single Source Soil Grown Small Batch Cultivators from Pennsylvania).
The event kicked off Friday evening, and it didn’t take long for Skatebird to fill up with expert stoners and cannabis connoisseurs ready to shop the exclusive Terp Basel marketplace. Brands like The Best Dirty Lemonade and OCB dished out free samples and swag, while hot brands like B-Eazy, The Stoned Goat, and Donutz showcased potent pounds of flower and high-end concentrates.
Between skate ramps, you’d find Trinidad James and his band who brought the house down with an energy-packed live performance - soon to be available in Dolby Atmos Spacial Audio. Guests sparked up and grooved to funky tunes all night long while DJ Whoo Kid spun with Liquid Light Lab, to create trippy, prism rainbow art and visuals to play alongside the tunes on a massive 20 Ft LED screen.
Day 2
Vibrant art installations and upbeat live music carried the event into Day 2. Trinidad James set the vibe with another lively performance that was filmed for an upcoming official music video. The dab bar hosted by Dab Rite kept guests elevated throughout the evening while the legendary DJ Qbert mesmerized Terp-goers with his unmatched scratching skills.
Later in the evening, the 4th edition of Highest on the Runway broke necks and records, again, being the first-ever fashion show to consume cannabis on the runway. The cannabis fashion show brought a level of hype and art that was unmatched by any other cannabis event before.
Given the skate park environment of Terp Basel, runway models cruised down the half-pipe on a skateboard, ripped a bong, smoked a joint, and even dabbed from a Puffco Peak. Fashion designers in the show included Vlackbook, Octavio Aguilar, and Midnight in Shibuya – each show presented beautiful textile work with upcycled fabrics that created daring, bold styles.
Day 3
Sunday was far from a day of rest – fun cannabis chaos was in full effect! DJ Nikka T kicked off the final Terp Basel night with a sizzling set of West Coast-style music and remixes, followed by DJ Joey Mojo bringing the reggae and house vibes right from Cheech & Chongs High N Dry Seltzer activation underneath the big screen.
Professional roller and artist MJ Mazzei created an entire Basquiat Collection out of blunt wraps and papers. Partnering with Bosky Genetics and the Terp Basel creative team, he brought their unique art piece to life – the BoskyYacht - a massive 2-pound blunt in the shape of a luxury yacht for guests to light up together and get Shipwrecked!
Later in the evening, a large crowd gathered on the half-pipe to try a whack at the Cybertruck Bluntñata. Artists and guests could leave their mark on the truck all weekend long, tagging their signatures or names on the windshield or roof. By Sunday evening, guests were whacking the Bluntñata, trying to open it and grab the hundreds of WAXX Brandz Gelato41 pre-rolls inside.
In an Instagram post, Mazzei spoke about the Cybertruck Bluntñata and other wrapped pieces in his collection, “In its destruction, it became more than just a piñata — it became a shared memory, a collective expression. The art may no longer exist in its original form, but in its return to the ether, it lives on in the stories and energy we all carry forward.”
The high energy mentioned wasn’t just during the Bluntñata fun but represented throughout the entire event. Terp Basel was a Miami-based event that represented the true, authentic roots of cannabis culture. The plant's essence and artistic beauty were embraced and honored at Terp Basel and celebrated through every unique piece of art or performance launched over the weekend.
